We’re an independent charity working to improve lives of people with cancer and other serious conditions. We do this through medical research and by providing the best patient care using high quality scanners. Last year we scanned 18,000 patients giving them and their families hope for the future.

Story

Thank you for buying the PDF version of CYHSYF and for donating to the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre!

The Paul Strickland Scanner Centre is a charity providing Computerised Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET/CT) to the National Health Service and Private Healthcare sector in the United Kingdom.
The Centre is based at Mount Vernon Hospital and was opened in 1985.

It was funded entirely by voluntary donations resulting from a public appeal masterminded by Dr Paul Strickland OBE MB BS FRCR FRCP FLS. A world renowned cancer specialist, Dr Strickland was Director of the Radiotherapy Department at Mount Vernon, later renamed as the Mount Vernon Cancer Treatment Centre. As well as introducing new and more effective methods of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, Dr Strickland was an early and vociferous advocate of medical imaging and the importance of early diagnosis to save lives.

Since its inception the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre has continued to pursue the aim of its founder in remaining at the forefront of scanning technology, providing the latest CT, MRI and PET/CT scanners and a Cyclotron unit producing the tracer, all on one site, facilities unsurpassed for clinical use in the UK.

My Dad, Ed Messenger, was treated for the dreaded disease at Mount Vernon and regularly had both PET and CT scans in the scanner centre. Our family are extremely grateful for the care and support we were given by everybody concerned during his long fight. One of his last wishes was for us to continue to support the centre, and when CYHSYF asked us to nominate a charity in Dad’s honour, it was an easy choice. On behalf of the old boy and our whole family, thank you for buying this issue and helping a fantastic charity to boot.
Dave Messenger

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
