CAITLIN COMPLETES HER CHALLENGE!!!!

In front of 250 spectators, Caitlin walked with her rolator and targeted her beanbags, what a star she was.

She was very excited to meet Tony Gibb, GB Champion professional cyclist and Tom Rees, Wasps and England rugby player who both fought to place the medal over her head due to her charming them earlier in the proceedings!

The challenge day was a great success and so many children achieved challenges that were set with high expectations. Well done to everyone involved.

If you haven't supported PACE yet, please be inspired to do so by reading Caitlin's story below, it's not too late.....

CAITLIN

Caitlin has a brain abnormality which means that she is both physically and mentally disabled and has epilepsy. The simple life skills that you and I take for granted, like washing, dressing, eating, walking, talking - Caitlin has to work really hard at as she has global develepmental delay.

Anyone who knows Caitlin will understand this when I say that she is a delightful happy little girl who has her own mind and is full of love.  She works so hard at school and makes everybody very proud of her.

SO, WHAT'S SPECIAL ABOUT PACE?!

The PACE Centre (http://thepacecentre.org) is a charity based in Bucks that gives developmental  assistance to physically disabled children who find learning everyday skills difficult. PACE believe in each child's ability to learn despite their disability and provide an inspirational environment motivating children with disabilities to work hard at achieving goals. Help includes physcial, social, communication, academic and self-care skills. The centre helps the children learn to say "I can try, I CAN do it". The children at PACE develop a positive attitude because they are learning in an environment where everyone believes in their abilities and has high expectations of them.

Caitlin is testimony to their on-going dedication and expertise.

WHAT'S CAITLIN'S CHALLENGE?

To raise funds for the wonderful work PACE do Caitlin has been set the challenge of walking five metres independently with a rollator, stand, and target three bean bags. She will complete this challenge on a special Childrens challenge day at Stoke Mandeville Stadium the week of the 5th November.

Who would have thought she could be doing this 2 years ago? She has been practising very hard to try and achieve this goal, pushing and walking forwards independently takes alot of strength and concentration from Caitlin.

HOW CAN YOU HELP??

Your support is invaluable and greatly appreciated. You can make a difference to so many childrens lives by raising money for PACE and enabling the charity to continue it's fantastic work. At the last Children's Challenge time in 2007 an incredible £70,000 was raised by 40 families. Caitlin was part of that challenge then, she had to stand up and sit down independently whilst holding a bar 5 times. Some of you so kindly donated then and watched her complete her challenge. You made a difference, the money raised paid for the cost of early year's provision for the whole of 2008. Caitlin benefited directly from this.

The 2009 events will be aiming high... to pay for the cost of helping their biggest number of children and families through outreach and follow up.  Caitlin will also benefit from this in time to come, so anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.
