Happy Update!
I am very happy and relieved to say that 8 (myself included) of our group of 10 managed to get to Uhuru Point aka “The Roof of Africa” on top of Mount Kilimanjaro(see above left). The Trek was a lot harder than we ever imagined and on summit night on Monday 10 January 2011 @ 11pm we were told that all going well we should take about 6 hours to get to Uhuru Point, in fact it took us closer to 10 hours on the back of 6 very long and tiring trekking & climbing days to get to Barafu Base Camp.
When the going got very tough on summit night, the added incentive of supporting the two very worthy charities below and of course the support of the people who had sponsored or sent messages of support was extremely motivating and encouraging. Thank you so much.
Having now completed the Mountain Climb target, I hope if you reading this and have not yet sponsored, please sponsor and help me get to the £2000 target for The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund(UK) & The Ithemba Project.
Thanks & Cheers
Cameron
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am going to try and trek to the top of Kilimanjaro during January 2011. The trip is self funded but I would like to raise as much as I can for two causes I feel passionate about ; The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund(UK) and Ithemba Projects. To most, Madiba (Nelson Mandela) won't need much of an introduction but since getting involved with the UK office of his Children's Fund, I have witnessed the massive contribution they make to childrens lives in South Africa.
Ithemba is a project in Kwa-Zulu Natal that a close friend of mine, Debs Sims, has worked for this past year and is going to work for again during 2011. Debs gave up a very comfortable life here in the UK and has decided to go and work back in South Africa for two years in Sweetwaters township near Hilton, Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Both Charities do fantastic work for South African children that live in communities that are experiencing massive challenges and need all the help they can get. I will be splitting whatever donations I receive through this page between the two Charities. Please visit their websites www.ithembaprojects.org.za and www.mandela-children.org.uk for loads more info about the great work they are doing. Thanks for reading.
