Story
I’m writing to you today to tell you about the amazing adventure I will be doing in aid of Help for Heroes.
My name is Cara Holmes and I’m 18 years old from Corby. I work as a full time receptionist in Hampton by Hilton hotel and I’m currently studying an NVQ in Business and Administration. My boyfriend serves in the British army and may be doing a tour to Afghanistan in the near future.
In October 2010 I will be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to help raise money for the worthy charity Help for Heroes.
Mt. Kilimanjaro is the largest walk able mountain/extinct volcano, in the world, reaching an amazing 20,000 ft. The adventure starts on the 7th October where I will be flying to South Africa to start the ascend. It will take me approximately 7 days to climb Kilimanjaro, during that time I will experience going through rain forest to rocky terrain then onto snow and ice. The summit is known to be the hardest part of the journey, but once I reach the top it will be well worth it. The climb will not only take my energy physically but also mentally, but I’m well prepared for the task ahead, as I know I’m doing it for a good cause.
The reason I will be climbing this wonderful mountain is to raise money for a charity called Help for Heroes. If you’ve not heard of it before, it’s a charity that supports the wounded soldiers when they return from war. Some soldier’s return that badly injured they can not work again! The government will provide these soldiers with compensation to assist them for the rest of their lives but medical costs need to be covered and that’s where Help for Heroes comes into it. Money raised will help with medical costs here and on the field. Help for Heroes have already built rehabilitation centres, that are well known, to support these courageous soldiers on their return.
I have a target of £3500 but want to raise a lot more as our soldiers deserve it!
I know during the recession times people are struggling with money, but I’m not asking for a lot. A donation of a £10 could go along way and it’s deeply appreciated by our soldiers who put their lives at risk daily to keep our country safe.
I also sell Help for Heroes merchandise, including the wristbands, which are very popular. If you would like to know more or purchase any items feel free to contact me with the details below.
I want to thank you for your time and hopefully you choose to support this amazing charity. My adventure will be publicised and you can hear about it on Corby radio or the Corby evening telegraph. Once again your time and donations are appreciated!
