A group representing the Royals are set to travel to Nairobi next year, to work on a fantastic community project in Southeast Africa. 

Twenty two representatives from Reading Football Club will undertake the trip, christened 'Caring for Kenya', in partnership with African Adventures. 

Our volunteers will undertake building work at a school in the area, whilst also coaching and teaching the local community - with the trip set to take place in September 2014. 

 

Many of those volunteers already have inspirational stories of their own, having graduated through the club's community courses and schemes to become part time youth workers - turning their lives around after exclusion from school or leaving care.  

The project will be entirely self funded, with the group aiming to raise £32,000 for the trip over the next few months. 

As part of the fund raising, a specially selected group of Young Royals are aiming to take part in a charity run round Green Park in January - with proceeds from their collections going towards the cause. 

Royals Social Inclusion Officer Richard Witt, who will form part of the group heading to Kenya, said: "This is a fantastic project and one that will give us a privileged opportunity to make a real difference. The places we will work in are low income areas where most people live off less than 60p per day and many families struggle to feed their children on a daily basis. Hopefully with some back from the Reading fans we can raise the money needed to go over there and build something sustainable."
