Story
After 4 months planning, apprehension and only just enough training myself and 3 friends completed the London to Derby Bike ride on Saturday 26 May. We set off from Triton Square in London at 6:30 in the morning and arrived at
Becket Street in Derby after 146 miles cycling and 9 hours and 47 minutes in the saddle.
The ride went largely according to plan despite a northerly breeze, occasional showers, and the door of a tube train closing on the back wheel of one of the bikes before we even set off! The route was on largely on country lanes and all the maps we took when stuck together were over three metres long. Fortunately the route was programmed into a Tom-Tom which was strapped to the handlebars of one of the bikes and so we just trusted in the technology and followed the on screen instructions.
We stopped for refreshments and rest approximately every 30 miles which were dispensed from the back of a support car which was loaded with enough spares to build a bike, as well as a spare bike and sufficient calories to feed a small a small army.
The money raised from the London to Derby bike ride will go towards the development and expansion of the playground equipment at Ilam school which is supported by the Ilam School Association (registered charity No 1011378)
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Ilam School Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
