Brentwood Half Marathon 2014 · 23 March 2014 ·

Every week in the UK, around two families are told their child has neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. We fund leading research projects to deliver new, effective and kinder treatments for children with neuroblastoma. With your help we can save more young lives.

About Lily:

Lily was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma when she was 20months old in August 2013. It is a rare, aggressive type of cancer, affecting only 100 children a year in the UK and early detection is paramount to successful treatment. Symptoms are similar to many common childhood illnesses which means it is often misdiagnosed. It was the persistence of Lily's parents with the doctors that has literally saved Lily's life; it has hopefully been caught early enough to treat successfully. By running the marathon we are hoping to raise awareness of this awful disease. If we can enable just one parent to catch it early & save their child's life, then something good can come out of everything our brave little Lily, her parents, siblings, grandparents & the rest of her family have endured.

Lily is currently undergoing chemotherapy which has made her very poorly and caused hair loose.  She will be having two major operations on the 1 of December & the 1 of January to try and remove the tumor. We are praying for the best results and for Lily to get better soon.

This will be my first half Marathon and I’m worried I won’t make it to the finishing line; however, the pain and long training sessions will be nothing compared to what Lily and her family are currently going through.

I would love for you all to sponsor us through JustGiving for this amazing charity and help us raise awareness.

The reason "Lily's Legends" began in the words from my friend and Lily's aunt Emma...

Children develop neuroblastoma whilst in the womb and only 100 children are diagnosed with it each year in the UK. Early detection is the key - out of every 100 children diagnosed, it has spread in 75% of these. Out of this 75% only 45% go on to fully recover. If it is detected early & hasn't spread children have a 90% chance of making a full recovery. Shocking statistics! Vicki's persistence with the doctors has literally saved Lily's life as hers has hopefully been caught early enough to treat successfully. We are hoping to raise awareness of this awful disease.
