Biking for and Benjamin - Five bikes, four days and 263 miles will come together for a team of local public sector workers next month when they swap their desks for the highways to raise money for two charities.

Five members of the Baltic House branch of Hassra (a nationwide social club for all staff working in the departments of Health, Work and Pensions and the Food standards agency) are taking to the road to celebrate the organisation’s 75 anniversary, and will be visiting colleagues in Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Cromer, Kings Lynn, Downham Market, Dereham and Diss before finishing up at a family fun day at Swardeston Rugby club on Saturday 10 July.

Hassra (www.hassra.org)  was formed in 1935 and currently has over 70,000 members nationally. It provides an opportunity for staff to engage in sports and recreational activities locally.

Baltic House () branch has decided to use a sporting event to celebrate and promote the club. A group of 5 intrepid cyclists will be taking part in the charity cycle ride around to visit all of the jobcentres, they will cover approximately 263 miles over 4 days and complete their journey at a family fun day. y hope that staff from each jobcentre will join them on each leg of their journey, whether on their own individual bikes or as a paying passenger on a tandem!

money that will be raised via sponsorship, and at the family fun day, will be shared between two local charities (www.buildnorwich.org.uk) that works with adults and young people with learning difficulties and other disabilities and Benjamin Foundation (www.benjaminfoundation.co.uk) which exists to help people in Norfolk deal with many of the challenges that life throws at them; whether ‘everyday’ issues such as childcare or heartbreaking problems like abuse and homelessness.
