Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my just giving page.
Many of you will already know our story, but for those of you who don’t, my dearest husband Kevin was diagnosed with bowel cancer on our 24th Wedding Anniversary in June 2005 at the age of 47. Although this was terribly crushing news, the next four and a half years saw Kevin fighting the disease not only with a tremendous amount courage, but a motivated and positive attitude, a huge zest for life and a never ending smile boldly worn for all of his family, friends and work colleagues. His fun loving personality never lost its edge, it shone through regardless, especially whilst sharing fun and magical moments with his family in Disney World Orlando. It’s only now we appreciate how brave he truly was. He is deeply missed and will remain in the hearts of us all forever.
Extending his life expectancy the only way he could by undergoing three major abdominal surgeries, four years of chemotherapy, and alternative treatments at the Dove Clinic, he managed, with massive support from his colleagues at Selwood, to raise £60,000.00 for various different UK cancer charities. A further £13,000.00 was also raised for Wessex Cancer Trust during a sky dive undertaken with family members over the Hoover Dam in January 2009. During this period he was also privileged to play his long and anxiously awaited role of “father of the bride” to our beautiful daughter Lisa, see a son he was so proud of, Richard, turn 21 and above all, be blessed to see the eagerly longed for arrival of our precious little granddaughter Aimee. A very proud, loving and doting Granddad deriving so much joy from such a treasured little bundle. Kevin sadly departed from the loving embrace of all his family and friends very shortly thereafter on 7th April 2010.
Selwood, in memory of Kevin, and five years on from their original £60,000.00 fund raising success, have now set out to remember him by exceeding their previous huge achievement by raising a further £65,000.00. Many fund raising events throughout the forthcoming year, plus a few that took place last year, will gradually bring us towards this target, but the Grand Finale involving eleven of us towards the end of the year, must surely be when the challenge to trek the Height of Kilimanjaro puts us all to the test. Please support us if you can as all donations are very much appreciated.
Today, cancer unfortunately touches the lives of far too many of us, so please lets work together to beat it.
Thank you for your caring support.
Love
Carole
