Story

31st May - Disaster! Fell and fractured my wrist whilst training on Saturday. Absolutely gutted that it now looks like I won't even be able to start.

1st June  - great news - apparently only ligament damage! Just a race against time now to regain sufficient movement.

14th June - Decided to give it a go and see how wrist would hold up. However after first 15 miles the wrist was playing up already. By the first pit stop I had to make the difficult decision to stop as was no longer confident of being able to use the left hand to brake.......I am however determined that this only a postponement. I need to work out the logistics of how and when but I am determined I will complete this.

Thank you to all who have supported and sponsored me.

I've signed up to cycle from John O'Groats to Land's End next June as part of the Deloitte Ride Across Brtiain  www.rideacrossbritain.com

1000 miles in 9 days!  I must be completely mad!  The training has started already, and the Scottish weather and darkness in winter certainly don't help.

An extract from my training...

Saturday 22nd May - 43 miles with Stirling bike club - and then a further 25 around Loch Katrine.

Friday 21st May - 87 miles

Sunday 16th May - Etape Caledonia - 81 miles in 5 hours 20 mins - not too hilly though and the weather was great..

Saturday 15th May - Just 25 miles today in preparation for the event tomorrow.

Friday 14th May  - 50 miles today and the weather was so much better than the heavy showers predicted

Sunday 9th May  - more gym work to sort out my back.

Saturday 8th May  - 45 miles today  - 2000 feet climb and descent. Route from home to Bishopton, Kilmacolm, Houston and home.

Friday 7th May

92 miles today (longest so far). Lennoxtown, Stirling, Kincardine, Culross, Muckhart, Dollar, Stirling, Fintry, Lennoxtown. 7000 feet climb and descent. 2 punctures didn't help our cause. Didn't get home till 8pm.

Wednesday 5th May
Off to gym to try and strengthen my back.

Sunday 2nd May
67 miles, 4600 feet ascent (&descent), 5 hours 24 minutes. My back isn't up to this!

Saturday 1st May
A weekend in Pitlochry to get started cycling.A practice of the Etape Caledonian route - in preparation for 2 weeks time. 83 miles, 4500 feet ascent (& descent), 6 hours 6 mins of cycling in horrible wet cold weather isn't good for my lower back. Lets hope the weather is better in 2 weeks time!

Saturday 24th April
3 of us today. 80 miles, 5700 feet climb, 6 hours 10 minutes.  Weather better than goodness. 2 days in a row is hurting  the back though.

Friday 23rd April
83 miles, 6700 feet ascent, 6 hours 43 minutes in the saddle. The first of back to back 80 milers. Weather awful. soaked and freezing. The boys from Stirling bike club just laughed at us when we turned up in cafe in Aberfoyle to warm up. Days like this aren't good. If it wasn't for fact I had someone to train with I would have given up hours ago.

Saturday 17th
Why has the weather turned so cold. 74 miles, 3900 feet ascent, 5`hours 52 but had to do on the hybrid bike. Nightmare, couldn't keep up with my triathlete training partner.

Friday 16th
Just 20 miles today - first time out on a bike since the holiday. THE bike is not yet back from the bike shop so on the hybrid.

Gears not working, bike in shop to be fixed but having a few problems sorting the issue.

April - 3rd to 10th
A week's holiday In Riccione (in italy near Rimini).  Managed 86 miles in one day. The furthest so far.
