Virgin London Marathon 2013 · 21 April 2013 ·

Every week a family in the UK hears the devastating words ‘your child has a rare cancer’. For families facing a diagnosis of retinoblastoma, life changes in an instant. At CHECT, we offer lifelong emotional support, practical advice, and grants to support anyone affected by retinoblastoma.

Story

In February 2010, Euan Fleming was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma at just 9 months old.

In the time since he was diagnosed, Euan has had over 40 general anesthetics, laser surgery,  chemotherapy, radiotherapy, chriotherapy, radioactive patches sewn onto his eye, blood transfusions, platelet transfusions and many, many nights in hospital.

Euan and his parents, and sometimes his big brother, have made  over 30 return flights to Birmingham, to receive the majority of his treatment from the UK specialist consultants for RB in Ophthalmology and Oncology.

Despite all this, Euan is a happy, bright 3 and a half year old, BUT he is still fighting cancer and an active tumour in his left eye.

I am privileged to be friends with Euan's parents, Robert and Ellen, and have watched them,Euan and his big brother Robert deal with this rollercoaster ride over the past 3 years and can only describe their ability to cope as awe inspiring.

For these reasons I am going to attempt to run the London Marathon on 21st April 2013, 1 week before Euan turns 4.

Please, if you can, support Euan, his family, CHECT and myself and donate now.

Many, many thanks.
