Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We made it!! We are two Pensioners who have now completed the gruelling bike ride cycling 200 miles from Formby, Merseyside, on the West Coast, to Whitley Bay, on the East. We pulled our two rescue terriers, Russell and Lily, in trailers towed behind the bikes!
We left on Tuesday 3rd May, and arrived Sunday 8th May, averaging 35 - 40 miles a day. Our route took us through Preston, Lancaster, Kendal, up over Shap summit at 1400 feet on the A6, then on to Penrith, and into the hills of Cumbria. From Brampton we took the Hadrian's wall military road across to Ponteland, then Whitley Bay.
The military road was far hillier than we remembered from previous car trips along it! And the wind, which until then had been reasonable, decided to swing side on against us. Very heavy going! To cap it all off, rain came with a vengeance, so by the time we arrived on the outskirts of Newcastle, we were soaked to the bone. Dogs remained warmer and somewhat drier in their cosy mobile homes! (We didn't ask them to do any work at all!)
We dug deep to do this ride, both physically and mentally. And we hope that animal lovers everywhere can do the same to help Freshfields.
