Last August my granddaughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 21 months.

Initially she was hospitalized whilst they controlled her insulin levels and taught her parents how to test her blood, count carbohydrates and inject her with insulin accordingly. As a result she has blood tested about 6-8 times a day (and night) and then has about 6 injections JUST TO STAY ALIVE!! This is a routine that she will have to follow for the rest of her life unless a cure is found. 

She has now adjusted to this routine and does not complain when she is injected or tested.

To raise awareness and funds for research into this chronic, life threatening condition I am running the World’s First Kilomathon (26.2 Kilometers/16.3 miles) from Nottingham to Derby on Sunday 14 March 2010.
