1 in 5 children in the UK are affected by their parents' alcohol problems. They are often frightened and isolated, with no one to turn to for help. Nacoa responds by providing a free, confidential telephone, 1-2-1 chat and email helpline.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The reason I have chosen this charity is because my Father was the most clever, smart and funny person I knew.  Unfortunately all this changed when he took early retirement from his job, the economy crashed and he found he couldn't get another job suitable for someone with his skills and experience.  With his self confidence at rock bottom, he began to drink more and more until it was apparent that addiction had taken over his life.

As a family, we begged him to get help, but he refused to see that there was a problem.  Eventually, he left home and as the addiction became worse, his health deteriorated.  By the time he had found love again and remarried, he was too far gone to help.  HIs liver failed and in turn, complications arose leading to extended stays in hospital.  Still, he would not admit he had a problem.

Dad died at 3am on Thursday 11th April 2013.

If my fundraising can help the families of alcoholics cope with what we have been through, if we can help even one addict get the help they need and return to their family, Dad's death won't have been for nothing.

Thank you for your time, and please give generously,

Caroline. xx
