Story
In September 2010 I shall be attempting to cycle from Winchester to Gibraltar, as a member of the Inspired Living team.
Inspired Living was established with the following aims:
* to inspire ordinary men & women to adopt heathier lifestyles to reduce their risk of contracting cancer,
* to produce medical research information which is of high value in the fight against cancer,
* to raise money for Cancer Research.
A colleague once told me that every time his children's friends came round to play and addressed him as Mr. G----, he experienced a moment of cognitive dissonance and looked round for his own dad. It's like that for me; every time I hear the team doing the continental ride described as the 'elite cyclists', I think they must be talking about someone else. Any elite that I might ever be associated with could never be a sporting one. I'm the sort of cyclist who just starts at point A and twiddles the pedals round and round until I reach point B, and I shall be the one coming in last every day of the ride. I do love cycling though. The way that it gets me between A and B in about a quarter of the time it would take to walk, while burning about a quarter of the energy seems temptingly like defiance of the law of conservation of energy.
Anyway, this isn't about me. It's about Cancer Research, and if you don't have any friends who've been affected by cancer, you probably don't have any friends. It's inspiring that there are cancer survivors doing this ride, and CRUK are working to make sure that more people survive cancer, or even better, to prevent cancer in the first place.
In case of any doubt, the ride itself is completely funded by the participants and sponsors. All the money donated through this page goes directly to Cancer Research UK.
Donating through JustGiving is simple and fast. They promise not to sell on your details or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. Note that JustGiving take a 5% fee from your donation and the reclaimed Gift Aid, and then VAT is charged on this fee. If you prefer to avoid these charges, contact me for an old-style sponsorship form.
Thank you,
Caroline
