The lives of our family and friends were changed forever in March 2015 when my beautiful husband Steve, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour; a Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade IV. There is currently no cure for this cancer.
Having overcome brain surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, we learnt in January 2016 that his tumour had returned. Despite undergoing further oral and IV chemotherapy between April-November 2016, nothing could stunt and stop the growth of his tumour and Steve devastatingly passed away on 30th November 2016 - 21 months after diagnosis and aged just 37 years.
Despite his terminal diagnosis, Steve chose to live. He continued to work, enjoy family life and even run, for as long as his health would allow. The whole time throughout his illness, he did all he could to raise the awareness of brain tumours.
When Steve was diagnosed, it became apparent as to just how prevalent this disease is and yet how woefully underfunded brain tumour research is. It shockingly receives just 1% of national cancer funding each year. This is despite brain tumours being the number one cancer killer amongst the under 40s.
We are committed to raising the awareness of brain tumour research in Steve's memory and thank you for all your support in helping us to FundTheFight.
