Today more than 2 million people are living with cancer in the UK, and around 300,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. More than one in three of us will get cancer at some stage in our lives, so it really does affect as all.
Last year I lost my best friend and my inspiration, my Mum, to cancer. In her honour and to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support I took part in the Hairy Haggis Marathon Relay with a team of colleagues from work, but this year I have decided to take this a step further.
On May the 25th, I will once again be pounding the streets of Edinburgh as I take on my biggest challenge to date, the Edinburgh Half Marathon - all 13.1 miles of it. I'll be doing this in memory of a very special person, but ultimately I will be doing this to raise money for a very special charity.
Macmillan wants to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer. They're the nurses helping people through treatment, the experts on the end of the phone, the volunteers giving people a hand with everyday things, the campaigners pushing for better cancer care. They count on our support to fund 99% of their services, and it's thanks to the effort and generosity of the the public that they are there for people as they face the toughest fight of their lives.
With this in mind, I once again ask for your support and if you can spare a penny or spare a pound, I would be so very grateful for your donations. This is no mean feat for someone as athletically challenged as myself and your donations and support will help make sure that no-one faces cancer alone.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
Once again, thank you for your support.
