Big Walk 2016 - One Day Challenge · 17 June 2016 ·

The University of Sheffield has launched this campaign for 2016 to support refugees teaching and learning at the University

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my Big Walk 2016 JustGiving page.

I'm walking 18 miles on 17 June in order to help raise money to support academics and students who are seeking asylum in Sheffield. I hope that you will join me by making a gift to support people and a cause that is near and dear both to my heart and to my research.

Funds raised will be used in the following ways:

— Supporting at risk academics, who the University will host, giving them a place of safety and the financial and practical help to continue their careers;

— Supporting students seeking asylum or refuge, to whom the University offers fully funded undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships so that seeking asylum in the UK can continue their education.

More information about The Big Walk 2016 can be found at www.shef.ac.uk/big-walk

The Big Walk 2016 combines two key events - The Trans Pennine Trail and the One Day Walking Challenge. I will be part of the One Day Challenge team of staff, students, alumni and friends who will join those walking the Trans Pennine Trail in order to walk the 18 miles back to the University campus on Friday, 17 June.

Please help me to support refugee academics and students at the University of Sheffield, to demonstrate our solidarity with those seeking sanctuary in the UK, and to show that these people are welcome at our University and in our city. This is just one part of what it means for the University of Sheffield to be a University of Sanctuary.
