Thanks for visiting my marathon page!

Although I've maintained a passable level of fitness over the years, this will be a big challenge so I have started some serious training and have even joined the local running club.

I am doing the run to raise money for Antenatal Results and Choices (ARC). This is a charity that helps parents through the anxiety of antenatal testing. When tests reveal an abnormality with an unborn baby, it can mean that agonising choices have to made about its future and ARC offer support at this stage. Sometimes, this can mean that parents decide to make the horrible decision to terminate a longed-for pregnancy.

Lindsey and I have been faced with this situation on two separate occasions in the last six years. In 2004 we lost our first baby, Amy, after a scan found serious heart and brain problems. Last year we made another agonising decision to terminate after our baby Daisy was found to have a major chromosomal defect. It has been torture to have been through this not once, but twice. Both times ARC were fantastic help, and offered information, practical and emotional support through the whole process.

We are still involved with the charity, and Lindsey herself has gone on to offer support to other parents in similar positions. ARC offers entirely impartial advice, and supports parents – whatever choices they make. It is the only UK charity to fill this need and relies on the donations and fundraising efforts of its supporters.
