Thank you everyone! I did it! I ran the London Marathon for Cats Protection. In spite of a couple of injuries in training, it was great to be at the starting line! I got cramp at mile 23 (ouch); but the crowds were so fantastically supportive, I ignored the pain and finished in just over 5 hours.
Everything we raise will go towards our local Cats Protection branch to help rescue these cats and kittens, who need our protection. They are often traumatized, sick, injured or abused and desperately need veterinary care.
Dedicated volunteers then care for these animals until they can be re-homed. They are examined by a veterinary surgeon, vaccinated against flu and enteritis, treated against fleas, roundworm and tapeworm, and any sick cats are blood tested for FIV and FeLV. If the cat has not been neutered before or during its time being cared for at the CatsProtection facility, provision will be made to ensure owners are able to do this after adoption.
There have been many accounts of rescued cats who have been happily re-homed, on the Cats Protection website www.cats.org.uk. Our family is privileged to have been adopted by many rescued cats over the years. Some of those saved by Cat's Protection are pictured on this website.
Thank you so much to everyone who has encouraged and supported me in my training. Friends and family have once again been amazing and kept me going when things got tough. Thanks also to Harrogate Podiatry, Alan (for the physio), the staff at Up and Running, Maximuscle, Gary and everyone at the gym for their technical advice, and John B. for his inspirational reading material - and everyone else who has helped me get to the starting line !
Please, please help Cats Protection. There are so many animals who are suffering and need us to help them because they can't help themselves.
Thank you,
Catkish xx
