Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!
We are Catherine and Ethan from Conisbrough, Doncaster. We are part of a group of students from Sheffield Hallam University heading to Battambang, Cambodia next year through the Future Sense Foundation to volunteer at a poverty hit school by building classrooms, painting libraries and constructing playgrounds from recycled materials for local disadvantaged children. We will also be teaching school children.
Cambodia is a developing country that faces many social issues and marginalised groups, particularly children, often don’t receive the care and support they need. Institutions in the Battambang region, where we work, are poorly funded and ill equipped to deal with the many social problems that people face. We work with selected local NGO’s on behalf of the most needy and neglected.
When you donate to this page, you can be assured that the money is not going towards our travel expenses as we are funding that ourselves after saving our own money, this means the charity will be able to utilize more money to make a big change in lives of children in Battambang!:)
We will be holding a ton of fundraising activities such as jumble sales, bar crawls, parties and discos, raffles, bingo, etc.! you name it, we're probably doing it!
We started out feeling that we want to make a change, instead of donating money to a cause and not knowing that change will be done effectively, you know your money will be going directly into making a change as we wil be there to ensure it and get on our hands and knees to do it! Cambodia only allocates 9% of their spending to education so there is an extremely poor amount that goes to schools' facilities and most importantly teaching. There are 2.5 million children who only have 58,000 teachers. Most Cambodian villages have a primary school but they are of very minimal help to the future of the children due to lack of funding as they do not offer a full 1-6 grade curriculum. Through Futuresense's efforts to making hands on changes, we are certain the improvements will be dramatic in the years to come.
Any donation, big or small, every £1 matters and mounts up to our target! Thank you so much for your help and we greatly appreciate it! Every currency matters!:)
We are currently working on a travel blog to keep you updated while we are there :)
