I ran the Great North Run in memory of my mum; Mary Hawkes who died from Alzheimers in May 2006. I trained hard for several months as until a couple of months ago I had not done any exercise since I left school!

In June I 'ran' The Race for Life in Worcester, which was 5k...in 37 mins, so I needed to prepare for a 21k (13 mile) run on September 20th. It was quite an effort, but I managed to complete the run in 2 hours 27 mins. All my family completed the Great North Run; my husband Kevin and our three children (all in their 20s). It was a very hot day and a great atmosphere!
