I'm doing the Great Yorkshire Run this year on 9 October (please ignore the date shown elsewhere on this page, which is an error by JustGiving!) in support of Refugee Action, and their work to build a society in which refugees - people in fear of their lives, people who've experienced persecution, violence, war - are welcome, respected and safe, and in which they can achieve their full potential.
Refugee Action works nationally with refugees and asylum seekers to help them rebuild their lives in the UK. They provide essential advice and practical support to help some of the most vulnerable people in our society to become part of their new communities. They are committed to ensuring refugees have a voice and they campaign for their rights and lobby for change. They challenge the misconceptions around asylum and strive for racial tolerance in our diverse society. And like other charities working in this area, their funding has been cut, directly affecting their front-line services.
