We help active and retired fishermen in UK to receive emergency help

Story

The Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fisherman (RNMDSF) is a charity organisation which alleviates poverty and despair in the fishing communities by providing emergency welfare and support to fishermen and their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Update as of 9th August - Due to circumstances beyond my control I am no longer able to climb Mount Kilimanjaro but my son Michael Bruce will be taking my place.   As I have paid all my own costs, these will be passed on to Michael so any donations received will go directly to the RNMDSF.   I would like to take this opportunity to thank  everyone who has donated so far.

I have always had a close association with the Fishermen’s Mission from when I attended the Wednesday morning ‘Young Wives’ where we used to meet and make things for the annual sale of work to the Harbour Open  Day which I continue to volunteer at.   The mission receives no government funding and relies solely on voluntary contributions from the public to continue their work.   My husband Peter who is skipper of the Peterhead registered Budding Rose has experienced on several occasions the benefits of having the mission close at hand.

My reason for doing this climb?    - Why not?    I saw the advert in the Fishing News one day and said to Peter - I would love to do that, what about it?  to which he replied ‘Well go for it’ and I thought well why can’t I?

Last year I lost my aunt and my mother within one week of one another.   My aunt was diagnosed with cancer in early 2009 and we had time to come to terms with her illness. My mother was admitted to the hospital one day and three weeks later she sadly passed away, exactly one week after my aunt.   Losing two people who I was very close to made me understand that time never stands still and if you want to do something you have to go for it!

Hence my reasons for this challenge and I am under no pretences that it will be a huge challenge!   I have climbed several of Munros (over 3000ft) but Mount Kilimanjaro which stands at 19000ft will be no walk in the park!    I will be paying for all my own costs i.e. flights, accommodation, food etc which means that every penny I raise will be for the good of the Fisherman’s Mission.
