My story

I thought it was about time I got off the sofa and challenged myself as I approach a milestone birthday, so what better way then to travel 480km into the arctic circle in February and take a team of Alaskan Huskies on a 200km trip for cats and dogs!

Battersea Dogs & Cats home do a brilliant job; they need £10m per year to survive, as they don't get ANY government funding. In times of recession they need our help even more because people are tightening their belts and some cannot afford to keep their pet. Battersea spend on average £1,000 per animal while looking after it.

I myself have a dog called Buffy and three cats, Archie, Sidney and Hercules. All four are rescue. I say rescue, two moved in without being invited and refused to leave but I wouldn’t have it any other way. They are a joy to have around and have even brought home presents on occasion.

My trip starts at Alta the Northernmost tip of Norway, temperatures are likely to plummet to below -35. Each day starts with looking after our huskies, harnessing them up and travels through the frozen woodland tracks, over snow filled mountain passes and across huge frozen lakes. We travel with all of our own sleeping equipment and live on freeze-dried food. At the end of the day the huskies are feed and out to bed before we can sort ourselves out. It's physically challenging stuff and will require a lot of dedicated training to prepare.

The Queen of Narnia I'm not! Do you think I could get solar powered hair straightners? Daylight last 12-16hrs a day.

I'm really very grateful that you've taken the time to visit my page and hope that you can donate anything you have spare. I'm planning to bake like Nigella and will be contacting you again very soon hoping I can tempt you with a cake or two for Christmas. They are the perfect gift and are made from scratch to my Grandmothers recipe.

I will be updating my page as I train so please visit again for news of my progress and for updates on my solar powered hunt!
