Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page and giving us the opportunity to explain how and why we are raising money for Acorns.

We did it! Thank you so much for your support which has been completely overwhelming!

We completed our ultimate running challenge of the London Marathonin the unofficial time of 5hours 27 minutes - according to Catherine's garmin,

So why is Jane running for Acorns? Mainly because she and the rest of the lovely Lovells, are a huge support to the Robinsons and so knows how much the Robinsons rely on the  Acorns services: short stay breaks for Sophie aged 12, sibling support for Louise who is 9 and just general and varied for support for all of us.

Sophie started having seizures from birth and continues to have some sort of seizure about 90% of the time, despite all the innovative treatment from the brilliant neuro team at Birmingham Childrens Hospital. She currently has more bad days than good. She has profound and multiple learning disabilities, is tube fed, and needs total care 24/7. As she grows, the challenge of caring for her become greater ( Catherine could become a weightlifter!)and she faces more physical problems, such as curved spine and dodgy hip joints.

Acorns provides a wonderful caring, warm, and fun place for Sophie to go and get away from fussing parents( what self respecting12 year old wants to be with their parents the whole time) and the chance for us to catch up on sleep, and a release from the constant pressures we have from being parents of a child with such a condition. We can also pretend to be a normal family for a bit and relax!

Catherine runs when Sophie is at school and it provides a wonderful release from sleepless nights and stressful times. So the marathon gives her a challenge and also the opportunity for our life line.

It costs £425 for a child to stay overnight at Acorns, Sophie is staying there for 4 nights to enable Catherine to run stress free. So we really need to raise more than our target.

Thanks for all of you who helped our fundraising by buying our mince pies before Christmas. we will do something similar for Easter, if we have time as we will be running 20 miles by then!
