Sickle Cell Disorders are serious, inherited conditions affecting the blood and various organs in the body. Sickle cell causes episodes of pain, long-term complications and can be life-threatning. It is more common in people of African, African-Carribean, Asian and origin. The Sickle Cell Society was founded in 1979 and provides information, counselling, advocacy, respite and financial assistance for those with sickle cell disorders and their families so they can live their lives to its full potential. They also provide training and education to health professionals so sickle cell sufferers to receive the right quality care.
