Story

Hello!

Thank you for visiting the Catholic Today/CAFOD fundraising page.

What are we doing?: We have teamed up to form the Catholic Today/CAFOD running team in the Great North Run 2007. The half marathon will take place on September 30th - some of us have run before, some are complete novices - and we need your help!!

Why?: A devastatiing drought hit northern Kenya in 2006. At its height, herds of animals were dying in vast numbers and severe water shortages left many people facing death. The Catholic Today/CAFOD running team are hoping to raise £8,000 for the people suffering from the aftermath of the terrible drought that has left so much suffering and anguish in its wake.

CAFOD responded immediately by providing partner organisations with food and medicines for the most vulnerable members of the affected communities. But much more needs to be done.

CAFOD continues to work with partner organisations to ensure that communities are prepared for further droughts. Local farming methods are adapted to make efficient use of every drop of water, wells are being built to ensure that even if droughts do hit again, villagers will have a permanent source of water. But we need your help!!

We are aiming to raise £8,000. A high target, but we think we can make it with your help. This money will go towards CAFODs drought devastation reduction programme.  Below are some examples of how the money raised will be spent:

£7.50 can buy a 25kg bag of high protein food to feed 4 people for a month during food shortage

£200 can pay to train one person in how to help their community prepare for drought and avoid food shortage

£3000 can build a tank to catch and contain rainwater to be stored and used during the dry season.

Many thanks for your support.
