The University of St Andrews Charities Campaign holds events throughout the year to raise money for Maggie's Cancer Care, UNICEF, and nightline. We also support students to fund-raise for other charitable causes. More information: www.charities-campaign.org.uk

Story

Hi, I'm Cathrine and I'm a second year Computer Science and Mathematics student at the University of St Andrews. This summer I will be joining a team of ten, cycling from Xi'an in China to Tashkent in Uzbekistan, following one of the routes of the ancient Silk road.

In doing this we are supporting two charities in Kyrgyzstan:

  1. The Elnura foundation, which works with two charities: The Center for the Protection of Children, who take children off the streets in Bishkek, and provide them with what they need to get a brighter future; and Babushka Adoption that offers social, moral and financial support to the elderly in Kyrgyzstan.
  2. Fauna and Flora International, where we will support their project of conserving the snow leopards in Kyrgyzstan.
