I will be living on a food parcel and £5  for the week of 19th- 26th July.I will have only the most basic food, no car and no social life!  

I am doing this to highlight the plight of refused Asylum Seekers living in the UK. When their claim is refused they get no Government support and are destitute and dependent on others, many live on the streets or become dependent on charity. 

This is despite the fact that they do not have the means to return home and for most it would be unsafe to do so. They have limited access to legal representation and have inadequate access to interpreters. Many eventually manage to make a new claim and are later given the right to remain.

   

Many people we meet and work with tell harrowing stories, they often arrive in this country having fled horrendous situaions, with few possessions and no friends. The visitors Group in Southampton and Winchester offers support, friendship and often financial assistance. We will pay rent for a basic room and give £25 subsistence if clients have no other means of support.
