We fund research into type 1 diabetes to find a cure for type 1 diabetes

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On International Women's Day, March 8, 2013, the global Nia community is celebrating "connection with community."  Nia classes all over the world will benefit many different charities, creating a conscious awareness of the connection between individuals and the greater good that we can achieve together.

My class (Friday 8 March, 10am, His Majesty's Theatre, Aberdeen) will be supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Scotland. The JDRF funds research  to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes. And, until they find a cure, they are committed to making the lives of those living with type 1 diabetes easier.

I chose JDRF for this event in honour of our friends, Mike and Layla Unger, to thank them for the support they offered my family in our move to Scotland. Their family has been doubly challenged by type 1 diabetes.  Both Mike and their daughter, Grace are type 1 diabetics.  Grace was diagnosed when she was only 3 years old, just months before their family moved to Scotland.  Because of the work JDRF has done in Scotland, they were better able to manage the transition between the medical systems of the US and the UK.  But it goes well beyond this; JDRF has given them a reason for hope.  I am honoured to support the JDRF, which has touched and will continue to touch their lives and the lives of the millions of others affected by the disease.

My fundraising goal of £450 represents the amount of money required to fund just one day of research.  Surely we can accomplish that!
