Cathy's mum and Aunty are both struggling badly with mixed Alzheimer's and vascular dementia, Cathy also lost an aunty last year to this horrific disease.  Greg's grand father is also struggling with Alzheimer's.  They have both battled with the government and council to try to get their family help but have ended up having to pay for private care as there is not enough support from the government.  Cathy's dad has just died so her mum needs even more support and unfortunately she has had to fight to get her mum into residentail care.

Cathy has experienced deep sadness watching her mother suffer over a three year period with every day tasks such as washing, knowing how to make a cup of tea, remembering where the toilet is in a house she has lived in for 55 years, knowing who her family is and that is just the tip of the iceberg.  Unfortunately, the disease just gets worse and there is no cure at the moment, changes in the person with Alzheimer's can sometimes hit very quickly; this is extremely heart breaking and they both want to raise as much awareness and money for research as possible for this amazing charity.

Cathy and Greg wanted to do something big and worthwhile to help with this so they decided to climb one of the biggest mountains in the World. Cathy has just been diagnosed with grade 4 degeneration in both her knee joints and extensive tearing in her hips which is making training extremely difficult but she is determined!  Please help as much as you can so they can reach their target and hope that the money raised can help towards the future of research in maybe finding a cure.
