Running for Amy

Adidas Women's 5k Challenge · 11 September 2011 ·
Imagine the symptoms of autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and severe anxiety disorders in one little girl...
Running is not what I do. I haven't voluntarily run for anything other than a bus in the last 20 years. And coping with a severely disabled child - I didn't think I did that, either.
When we realised Amy had Rett syndrome, it felt like a bad dream from which there would be no waking up. Our little girl looks perfect, but every aspect of her life is affected by Rett. She can't walk, talk or use her hands. It's caused by a defective gene.
But there is hope. Researchers have successfully reversed Rett syndrome in the lab - and scientists across the world believe that Rett could be the first reversible neurological disorder. Click on the video (on the left) to hear more about this. Funds are urgently needed to keep the research going and bring forward the day when girls like Amy are set free.
Please sponsor me to do this run - I don't do this kind of thing every day. It could make all the difference.
