Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue (www.uwfra.org.uk/d6/), a fine bunch of people who volunteer their free time to rescue the unwary, the unwise and the unlucky from potholes, crags and bogs in the Dales, relies entirely on donations to keep going.

The Olympic torch strolls through the Dales on June 24, neatly baulking their major fund raising activity of the year and costing them about £10,000 in lost donations. I don't expect cycling 200 miles from Cambridge to Grassington to make up that much but all contributions will help to keep the mud spattered volunteers out up the hills, in the fog or crawling through potholes - wherever they have to go to get people back to safety.

You might ask why I'm supporting Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue when Holme Valley Mountain Rescue is so much closer; there are lots of reasons, amongst them the fact that the Olympic torch only affects one place, and that the toss of the coin went north. So, we're supporting Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue with the assistance of Wharfedale RUFC's Cavalry Club, and hence finishing the ride at Wharfedale in time for kickoff of the last game of the season.

In total we riders are:

from Wharfedale RUFC: Robert Fort, Tim Lockett and Nick Gains, from UWFRA Ken Robinson and just here are Michael Fort and Vincent Banks

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. JG assures me that donating through them is simple, fast and totally secure, that your details are safe – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails and that, once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

All done! 211 miles at 13mph (almost as fast as a good marathon runner!). No accidents & only 2 punctures for Tim (18 1/2 stones vs one tube at 60psi - no contest.

In total our two websites, direct donations to UWFRA, cash and employers offering matching funds for charity you all have given close to £4000 to help Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue, and we (Nick, Robert, Tim, Vince and me, along with Pete, who navigated, and Ali, who managed us) would like to say Thank You.
