Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Yesterday, 20th May, I ran the Greater Manchester Bupa 10k Run in support of St Catherine's Hospice who are based near Preston in Central Lancashire.  St Catherine’s Hospice provides care for terminally ill people and their families.

The reason I decided to run on behalf of St Catherine's was because my father became terminally ill and died when I was a teenager. The facilities and extensive nature of care provided by St Catherine’s wasn’t available to us as a family when my father became ill. St Catherine’s do an absolutely tremendous job caring for terminally ill people and their families which is carried out with the upmost dignity and professionalism, but they are reliant on the generosity of the public to keep their services going.

As regards the run, I completed it in 46.02 minutes against an ambitious target of 40 minutes. The weather conditions were great for a run of this distance, but the run itself was hard!  I wasn’t far off my target time over the first 5K, which I hit at just over 21 mins, but couldn’t quite manage to maintain this level of pace over the second half the race which took me about 25 mins.

Overall, however, I was very pleased both with the time and run – I did my best and the thought of the experiences of those terminally ill patients and their families for whom St Catherine’s provide much needed care was a great motivating factor in keeping me going.

I'd like to thank all the people who have sponsored me by donating to this fantastic charity and for their kind messages of support.

If you haven't done so already then you've still got time to donate to St Catherine's via my Justgiving page, which will continue to accept donations until 20 August.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure, so please dig deep (however large or small) and donate now.

Many thanks.
