Rainforest Foundation 10K 1 November · 1 November 2009

The Rainforest Foundation UK aims to protect tropical rainforests by working with those who know the forest best – indigenous peoples and traditional forest dwellers. By supporting them, we're taking a major step forward in the battle to combat climate change.

Story

Deforestation creates more CO2 than all the cars, planes, trains and vehicles on Earth... 70% of the earth's wildlife species (including orangutans!) and 50 million forest people live in the rainforest.  An area of rainforest the size of England and Wales is lost every year.  The Rainforest Foundation "supports people living in and around the world's rainforests to protect the environment and fulfil their rights to land, life and livelihood."

So I did this 10K trot around Finsbury Park with about 500 other people on Sunday 1 November (http://www.rainforestfoundationuk.org/RF10K), and despite pouring rain and blustery wind, and having immediately run there from home and not being able to find the starting line until the race had started, and last but definitely not least having a stomach bug and a 100F fever that morning, I did get around in under an hour (59m17s, http://www.raceplus.co.uk/raceplus-index.php?content=1&race=10199&show_type=All&event_id=RAIN09&page=5&event_id=RAIN09&page=4).

So if you fancied sponsoring me retrospectively, it would be really nice.  (If you've already put your name on the sponsorship form, or otherwise want to give the money direct to me, do - this site takes about 5% I think.)

Thanks

Cedric
