Story
On Monday July 19, 2010, Andy Smith, Alaric Bates and Paul Bainbridge will climb, in the space of 24 hours, the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales to raise funds for the East Cheshire Hospice. The East Cheshire Hospice cares for adults suffering from life-limiting illnesses for which there are no cures. The hospice aims to meet all the needs of its patients -- whether medical, emotional or related to the challenges of daily living. The Hospice also supports patients' families and caregivers throughout this difficult period.
In support of the hospice, our trio of mountaineers will climb the following mountains within a mind boggling 24 hours: Ben Nevis in Western Scotland at 1,344 metres (4,409 ft), Snowdon in North Wales at 1,085 metres (3,560 ft), and Scafell Pike in North-Western England at 978 metres (3,209 ft). They will cover over 10,000 ft (3000m) of ascent, more than 24 miles on foot and drive over 750km... all in a single day. To support the three climbers, the following people have also given up their time to help with the driving and logistics between the venues - Calum Cross, Andy Pollock and Mark James. Farah Valli will help cordinate the fund raising efforts.
Our goal is to raise £6,000 -- a sum which will enable the hospice to run for one day. The team is effectively giving "a day for a day".
UK residents - please consider adding Gift aid to your donation, it costs you no more but it means the government gives our chosen charity the "basic tax" back on your donation. So if you donate £20 using Gift Aid, it’s worth £25 to the charity.
On behalf of the team, and more importantly, the people whose lives are supported by the Hospice we thank you for your support.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
