Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page to raise money for the wonderful conservation charity Bug Life.  I'm supporting their new project to conserve a rather beautiful little spider by doing an event that scares the pants off me!  Bude triathlon is well known for its particularly gnarly swim, and the last time that I did it I thought I was actually going to drown swimming in 8ft waves, so doing this again scares me a lot!! I will TOTALLY be earning your money to help conserve this little critter....

The Ladybird spider (Eresus sandaliatus) is one of the UK’s most spectacular spiders, but also one of our most endangered. We need your help to safeguard the future of this species and so have launched this new funding appeal.

The Ladybird spider was thought to be extinct in Britain for over 70 years until its rediscovery in 1980; since then no other populations have been found. When first found, the remaining site supported only a few spiders, but through successful conservation management the population has grown to nearly 1000 individuals.

With the funds you help me raise Bug Life will:

• continue the captive breeding programme
• establish new populations of the Ladybird spider
• monitor the existing populations to ensure that they are healthy and sustainable.
