GOSHCC - Hadrian's Wall trek 2012 · 27 June 2012 ·
My Daddy has finally got up from his desk and is doing a walk, or trek as he likes to call it, for Gt Ormond Street Hospital Charity. Well I enrolled him for his birthday present!! He is doing Hadrian's Wall at the end of June.
My name is Cerys Durkin and I have a complex heart condition known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which is the under development of the left hand side of my heart. I basically have half a heart and I had my first open heart operation at 3 days old, a second at 7 weeks old and will be having the third, and hopefully final operation this year. In fact I may already have had it by the time Dad does his walk, sorry his trek! After this third operation I will have even more energy to cause even more trouble for my Daddy at weekends.
All my surgical treatment has been at Gt Ormond St Hospital and they have been so amazing that I thought it was about time my Dad did something for them, especially since my Mummy has done so much. It really is an amazing place and I cannot say a big enough thank you to all the doctors, surgeons, nurses and all the staff in Cardiac for everything they have done for me and my family, and for my little friends there too.
Whatever my Daddy raises will go towards giving more babies and children like me every possible chance of leading a normal life.
