Why are we doing this:
Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and affects around half a million people in the UK. It is an incurable and progressive disease that disrupts mental pathways and slowly kills brain cells. As the disease advances symptoms progress to include confusion, irritability, aggression, mood swings, memory loss and problems with communication and reasoning. Gradually all bodily functions are lost, ultimately leading to death.

Alzheimer's Society is an organisation which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by all forms of dementia. Not only do they fund research projects into the prevention, cause, and eventual cure of dementia but they also provide support for the carers and families of those dealing
with the disease.

Their local services include day care and home care for people with dementia, as well as support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of  caring. They provide telephone and online services to help with every aspect of living with dementia: from understanding diagnosis and assessment to dealing with the financial challenges it brings.

Dementia research and treatment is severely underfunded as it is often written off as a side effect of old age despite the fact that there over 17,000 younger people with dementia in the UK. Most of their operational staff that provide these services are volunteers who have had personal experience of dementia, as carers, health professionals or are people with dementia themselves.

Please help us to raise money to fund both a research for a cure and to help make life better for those with the disease.
