The Laila Milly Foundation was set up in 2010 by Maya & Steve McCormack after their daughter Laila was born with a rare neurological condition. Sadly Laila passed away a day before her 1st birthday. They set up a day respite centre in West Yorkshire to provide care for disabled children aged 0-5.

Story

Hi,  my name is Maya and I run the Laila Milly Foundation.  We are a registered children's charity based in Hemsworth, West Yorkshire.  We provide care and support for families with young children with complex health needs, disabilities or life-limiting conditions.

Laila is my daughter, she had a rare neurological condition called Aicardi Syndrome, which meant she had seizures that were hard to control, she had to feed directly into her stomach (via gastrostomy) as she couldn't swallow safely, she had a heart condition, she wasn't able to communicate verbally but she was the sweetest and bravest little girl who made our lives better for being in it.  Sadly Laila lost her battle on the 2nd March 2011 a day before her first birthday.

We wanted to do something positive in her memory so we set up The Laila Milly Foundation.  We have been fundraising since 2011 and we were delighted to open the doors to our day respite centre in September 2014.

I have done different challenges over the years but this year it's all about you, our supporters, setting me challenges to do hence the name: Challenge Maya!!  I will be completing challenges over the next 12 months, finishing on the 31st December 2015.  Some challenges I will be doing by myself but others are group challenges, so you are more than welcome to join in!  They can be silly, fun or hard!  To post a challenge visit my page on Facebook www.facebook.com/ChallengeMaya

With your help we can continue to provide much needed support to the children and their families right from the start, when they need it the most.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, your support means so much to us.   Maya xxx
