The Stroke Association - St. Patrick's Day Charity Abseil - Manchester Velodrome · 13 March 2010 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Well after I persuaded my good friend Emma to do a tandem parachute jump last year for Epilepsy Action, she has returned the favour and asked me to do an abseil with her in Liverpool for the charity, The Stroke Association. The charity is dear to her after her father had a mild stroke but is now doing well thankfully.

The abseil is down the famous Cunard building on the pier front at Liverpool. It's approximately 110ft high (at least 6 floors high). Google it if you want to see a photo of it. It's part of the "three graces" which includes the Liver building. It's an organised event (we're not totally mad!!) called Liverpool Shocks! as it is on halloween.

I've never done an abseil before (or even really wanted to do one!) so this will be nerve wrecking for me, so put some faith in me and sponsor me please! However big or small it will be gratefully received.

Well the event has been and gone now and yes I managed to do the abseil eventually!! There was about a 2 hour delay in the set up on the day so it was nearer 12 noon instead of 10am when we were called up to do it. Then after the quickest training session ever on a ledge at the top of the building I managed to lower myself down to the bottom. Thank you to Lee and the boys who came along to support me. Charlie managed to fall asleep however and missed Mummy coming down!! I have an official photo from the top and a certificate to prove I did it, and Lee took some video too.

Emma - don't feel too bad you did really well and should be proud!!
