Virgin London Marathon 2012 · 22 April 2012 ·

1 in 5 children and 1 in 10 adults in the UK have eczema - over 8 million people. For 50 years the Society has provided information and support and works to dispel myths so those who have eczema need not feel stigmatised, guilty or isolated. More recently we have funded essential eczema research.

Story

Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As you may or may not of heard, in April 2012 I am running the Virgin London Marathon for the first time and will be raising money for The National Eczema Society - a fantastic charity that affects the lives of so many adults and children.

The reason for my sudden moment of madness in deciding to do this challenge is because my son Joe suffers with Eczema and has done from 3 weeks old. I grew tired of the countless times I had to visit the GP in order to try and improve his skin condition and all I was told was "there's nothing to cure it, he will grow out of it". I hated the fact that at times he would cry due to the pain and there was nothing I could do to make it better for him. The National Eczema Society does some great work and I feel that they are not given the support or the exposure that some other larger charities are given. As this is a charity that directly affects me and my family, I want to succeed in this challenge of a lifetime.

I am in the process of some hard training now and the weather is pretty awful and will only get worse. This makes it hard to get out and train in the evenings after long days at work, but my son is my motivation and I will continue on in order to achieve this goal and in doing so will hopefully spread the awareness of the condition and make people aware of this charity and the good work that they do.

As my family, friends & work colleagues, can I please ask and count on your support with this challenge by way of a donation through my JustGiving page. I have a target of £1,500 but I would love to smash this and raise as much as I possibly can. Please remember to tick the box in order to add the additional gift aid so that those greedy buggers in our goverment don't get their hands on it!

Donating is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe and are protected under data protection. They will send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate.

I would like to thank you all so very much for your kind donation and please, feel free if you wish, to join Helena, Joe, our new imminent arrival and my family in London on Marathon day - 22nd April 2012 to give me as much support as you can.

Thankyou all again x
