Story

Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We have signed up to the Bupa 10k in May to raise money for The Royal Star & Garter Homes for Disabled Ex-Service Men & Women, it is a brilliant charity that provide outstanding care to the ex-Service Community.

The charity provide for many residents in the Richmond and Solihull area including Ron Hill, who will benefit from your support. Ron served in the Queen’s Royal Regiment in World War II, and was one of the Infantrymen taking part in the D-Day landings. After six days of fighting, as his unit reached the village of Tully-sur-Seulles, they came under heavy artillery fire. Ron was hit by shrapnel that lodged in his back and left him permanently disabled. Ron became a full-time resident in 2010, shortly before his 90 birthday, after many years of coming to the Richmond Home for respite care. ‘This is the nearest you will get to a genuine home. They really care here and there’s no slacking. I do physiotherapy every day.’

This is a charity we feel very close to, Gaz was also injured by Shrapnel in Iraq back in 2005 when he was hit by a road side bomb and was left blind in one eye.
