We train and provide assistance dogs to transform the lives of disabled adults

Story

Hi friends and family,

More than 1.2 million people in the UK use a wheelchair, and a significant number of those would benefit from a canine partner.  Canine Partners for Independence train dogs to each applicant’s individual needs, helping them to perform everyday tasks such as opening and shutting doors, unloading the washing machine, picking up dropped items, pressing buttons and switches and getting help in an emergency.  They train dogs for the disabled with even the most complex conditions including members of HM Armed Forces.

These life transforming dogs also provide practical, physiological, psychological and social benefits including increased independence and confidence as well as increased motivation and self-esteem.  A canine partner also brings companionship, a sense of security and increases social interaction.

Canine Partners receives no government funding and relies solely on public donations.

In 2010 Team Stormforce (3 vets and 1 dentist) competed in the national Three Peaks Yacht Challenge. This proved a great adventure, raising money for charity whilst providing a lesson in exertion under sleep deprivation and sea sickness. Enjoyable but gruelling, it was something they thought they wouldn't repeat until now...

The Scottish Islands Three Peaks Challenge is an adventure race for teams of Sailors and Fell Runners and is held annually on and around the West Coast of Bonny Scotland.

The Race starts in Oban with a short hill run, then a sail to Salen on Mull, run over Ben More, sail to Craighouse on Jura, run the Paps, sail to Arran, run Goat Fell, then sail to Troon. The sailing course of 160 nautical miles includes the strong tides and overfalls of the Corryvreckan and the Mull of Kintyre whilst the runners cover 60 miles including 11,500 ft of ascent. The Race takes 3 to 4 Days, depending on weather conditions and runners' legs!

If you can make a donation, (any amount!) it is hugely appreciated.

Thank you very much,

Charles, John, Julian, Rod & Tim
