The Gurkha Welfare Trust is the leading Gurkha charity. We provide financial, medical and community aid to relieve poverty and distress among retired Gurkha soldiers, their families and their wider communities.

Story

With the recent tragedy in Nepal and seeing the devastation it has caused to so many people I very much want to do as much as I can to help these heroic people. Some of the most heroic and legendary people are the Gurkhas, and I want to raise money for these astonishing people for the hardship they have endured.

Recently I have been thinking of what event can I do that is nuts and last week I told my Dad we need to get on with swimming the English Channel next year, don’t tell mum. Though baby steps need to be taken towards that. I think this is a good reason to start with my first marathon. This run is called the Neolithic Marathon in Wiltshire and it starts at the Stones of Avebury and ends at Stonehenge. Its not the Himalayas but it’s running between some rocks.

So this is what I am thinking of at the moment. If by Sunday morning 6am I have raised £1000 for the Gurkha Welfare Trust – which sustain and support the Nepali community which has been hit hard by the quake – I will go to Avebury stones and do the run.   I will also be running it with my Two nutty Uncles who will stride through it, that is if Davy stops windging, don’t think I could put up with that for a whole marathon. Please donate towards this cause!

Well bloody Nora that was tough. Forgot x-country meant running up hills. Was great to see a number of other people supporting the Gurkha welfare trust and I am so grateful to everyone who donated on such short notice to this great cause. Loved spending the Sunday with these nutters and what a great performance they put in with both breaking 4.35 and David coming in at 68th and Will in 91st out of around 200runners. I found myself coming in at 3.39 in 11th which I really did not expect. Once again thank you all for your generous donations and support! — with David Sandison and Will Sandison.
