Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Two years ago my daughter, Syrie, was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH) - a rare chronic condition where the body's immune system attacks and, if left to itself, destroys the liver. At present there is no cure for AIH but it can be managed through daily doses of steroids and immuno-suppressants. Syrie's life is impacted via chronic fatigue, physical pain, restrictions on activities she is able to take part in, the side-effects of her medication and regular trips to and stays in hospital. She has had to miss a lot of school bringing further challenges as she works towards her GCSEs. Despite all of this, she is positive and brave and, above all, a source of huge inspiration.

I'm running a half marathon (for the first time) from my home to the Rays of Sunshine Ward at Kings College Hospital and back to raise money for three charities who have helped Syrie and other children who face similar challenges. I hope you will pick one to support me.

This page is for The Kings College Hospital Charity, who support the hospital which has provided Syrie with such wonderful and committed care.

The other two charities are:

  • The Childrens' Liver Disease Foundation, who are working tirelessly providing information, support services and supporting medical research into liver disease in children
  • Rays of Sunshine - who both sponsor the world-leading specialist paediatric liver ward at Kings College Hospital where Syrie is treated and also provide once-in-a-lifetime 'wishes' for children with serious illnesses

I have set up separate JustGiving pages for each these charities - if you are able to give, please select the page of your choice.
