This year I'll be running the Brighton Half Marathon, my third London Marathon and a 100k London to Brighton ultra-challenge

Before losing my sight, I was an active person, enjoying activities such as running, weight training and boxing. Losing my sight knocked my confidence and had a huge effect on my independence - even a walk to the shops became a huge challenge.

In November 2012, I learnt there was life beyond sight loss when I started to receive support from Blind Veterans UK. The offered me training and rehabilitation that meant I no longer had to rely on others for help with the simplest of tasks. It also opened new avenues for me with support in areas such as IT and Sports & Recreation. They helped me to accept my new situation and showed me that sight loss didn't need to be a barrier.

As part of my Sports & Recreation rehabilitation I was encouraged to set myself goals. Since I began to receive support, I’ve completed the Three Peaks challenge, three Great South Runs, three Brighton Half Marathons, two London Marathons and a 100k ultra-challenge walk from London to Brighton.

This year I will be running my third London Marathon and completing a 100k ultra-challenge run for Blind Veterans UK. My training schedule kicks off with the Brighton Half Marathon in February 2016. Together with my sighted guide, Ben, I hope to smash last year’s time.
