The World Health Organization and UNICEF ranks Cambodia 144 in the world for access to clean drinking water. This is one of the most serious problems affecting rural Cambodians and contributes to a range of health and social problems, including stunted growth; lower than acceptable weight to height ratios in adults and low life expectancy at birth.  Consuming poor-quality drinking water increases the risk of contracting water-borne diseases that can shorten mental and physical stamina. This impacts learning and working capacities in children and adults.

Since 2008, the Temple Garden Foundation has been working in partnership with communities in rural Cambodia to promote sustainable development for those living in poverty. Improving access to clean drinking water is one of their key goals.
