Story

Dear Friends and Family,

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the Robin Hood half Marathon on the 13th September 2009. Those of you that know me know that I am not the sporty type and would have struggled running for the bus! I am running in memory of my friend Gillian and hope to raise some money for Meningitis UK.

In March 2004 Gillian was expecting her second child, 26 weeks into her pregnancy she became unwell with flu like symptoms, on March 16th she lapsed into unconsciousness and was admitted to hospital where she was diagnosed with Meningitis, that same day she gave birth to a daughter Grace who survived for just a short while, on the 30th of March at the age of 31 Gillian died leaving a husband and small son.

Meningitis is a very complex disease and although babies can now be immunised against this devastating disease it does not protect them from all strains of Meningitis, the worst being Meningitis 'B'  this is the one that took Gillian's life....Meningitis can strike at any age. Bristol University is one of many centres working to develop a vaccine to eradicate all forms of Meningitis, anyone donating to 'Meningitis UK' will be helping in this urgent task.

Asking people for money in this economic climate is not easy but if you can spare some money then I think it is a great charity to be giving it to.

With love Charlotte x
